2nd Annual Conference 2008

The 2^ndAnnual Conference of the Cities for Children Network took place on 6th and 7th May 2008 in Stuttgart with representatives from over 48 European cities from 24 countries.

The Conference was opened by Deputy Mayor Dr. Martin Schairer, City of Stuttgart, Dr. Ingrid Hamm, Executive Director of the Robert Bosch Foundation, and Ulrich Bohner, Executive Director of the Congress of Local Authorities and Regions of the Council of Europe.

Highlights:

Reports from the WGs: The WG moderators reported to the plenary on the first WG meetings held in their cities. The WGs afterwards met separately to set the next topics and decide about the next moderating cities. Summary presentations and the protocolls on the WG pages.

"Youth violence: Prevention and Repression": a thematic discussion on the present situation, its causes and possibilities of action for municipalities:

Dr. Laurent Mucchielli, Director of the Centre for Sociological Research on Law and Criminal Justice (CNRS/ Université de Versailles-St.- Quentin-en Yvelines/French Ministry of Justice) introduced the topic with a keynote speech
Willi Pietsch, Detective Chief Superintendant, Stuttgart, representative of the "House of Youth Justice
Andy Newsam, Youth Justice Board England and Wales, London
Thomas Basler, Vice-Head of the Youth Department, Regional Police, Zurich

In the frame of the thematic discussion on Youth Violence, following experts intervened :
