4th Annual Conference Cities for Children focused on "Informal Education"
The 4th Annual Conference Cities for Children focused on the meaning and spectrum of informal education for children and youth’s development. Departing from a theoretical standpoint, this was demonstrated by successful practical examples on the municipal level.
Over 40 cities from 25 European countries were represented at the Annual Conference and were welcomed by Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, Executive Director of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, Dr. Ingrid Hamm and Secretary General of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, Frédéric Vallier.

Expert presentations were held by Dr. Margaret Whalley, the British researcher on Early Childhood Educational Policy of the Pen Green Research Base in Corby and Miho Taguma, Senior Policy Analyst for the OECD-Directorate for Education.

- Karin Ploetz, Director "LitCam"
Karin Plötz, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair Literacy Campaign "LitCam", gave insight into the best practice "Football meets Culture", which is conducted in the cities of Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart, as well as in South Africa.
Due to difficult travel circumstances owing to the volcanic ash cloud, Catherine Milliken, Director of the Education Programme "Zukunft@BPhil" of the Berliner Philharmonie unfortunately could not speak at the conference. However, film material of the programme may be looked at on the Facebook page of the Berlin Philharmonie (then: Videos - Zukunft@BPhil).

Presentations by "City for Children" Award Shortlist Nominees
The cities shortlisted for the European Award of Excellence “City for Children”, Bucharest, Cádiz, Cracow, Gelsenkirchen and Porto, presented outstanding European projects in the field of informal education.
City of Bucharest: Emanuel Adrian Sarbu, Head of the Civil Society and Social Actors Department
City of Cádiz: Herminia Sainz Gutierrez & Rafael Martínez Murga, Department for Social Services (presentation was held by Roswitha Lindenberger, as Cádiz representatives could not attend due to the volcanic ash cloud)
City of Cracow: Zuzanna Oles, Project Coordinator, "U Siemachy" Association
City of Gelsenkirchen: Alfons Wissmann, Head of the Education Department
City of Porto: Maria Manuela Rezende, Director of Department for Education and Youth (presentation was held by Lena von Seggern, as Porto representatives could not attend due to the volcanic ash cloud)
The European Award of Excellence "City for Children" 2010 was presented in the evening to the cities of Cádiz and Gelsenkirchen in the context of the Annual Conference.
